How to disable Remote Software Upgrade on your BMW to prevent loss of aftermarket flash tune

To prevent loss of your aftermarket performance flash based tune on vehicles equipped with the Remote Software Upgrade feature on the late BMW models, we recommend disabling this feature in the iDrive system by following these 5 steps:

GEN 2 VEHICLES

Step 1: 

On the MyBMW app, select “Vehicle Settings”

Step 2: 

From the “Vehicle Settings” menu, select “Download Automatically” and select "OFF"

GEN 1 VEHICLES

Step 1: 

On the main menu, select “CAR”

Step 2: 

From the “CAR” menu, select “Settings”

Step 3: 

From the “Settings” menu, select “General Settings”

Step 4: 

From the “General Settings” menu, select “Remote Software Upgrade”

Step 5: 

From the “Remote Software Upgrade” menu, select “Deactivate function now”
